Can I mix acrylic paint on a wooden artist palette?
You see, my art teacher has asked us to obtain either a flat plastic palette or palette papers for my class. I could only find wooden palettes, however. We work only with acrylic paints in the class. Should I return the wooden palette and resume my search?
I don’t think a wooden palette is right for acrylics. Acrylic paints don’t come off anything once they have dried and being water soluble you are going to have to be washing it constantly which isn’t the best thing for wood, with plastic it wouldn’t absorb the water and you could get it properly dry. There is something though called a ’stay-wet’ palette people often use with acrylics, sorry if this sound contradictory, I haven’t tried it but I think it’s something like palette papers.
This is my experience though from several years ago so they might have other products now and different sorts of paints, why don’t you just take the wooden ones back and ask for advice at the art store?
